How many times have you watched your favorite movie? About three hundred I bet. Did you know that the movie may have been inspired in some way by a books? What is your favorite play? Truth is, most plays and musicals are made based on books. Not all movies, plays, and musicals are based on books, but many are. Books are amazing things. They can take you away to new exciting places and make you feel the wind and taste the rain and anything else imaginable. Books in a way are like movies. If you have an imagination big enough, you are able to see the images flash and zoom through your head. It is like your own personal movie, written by someone else, but directed, produced, acted, and designed by you. When books are better than movie, it is because you see something in your mind that is just wonderfully spectacular. Everything looks better and is just all together in your own mind because it is what you would want to see. On the other hand, when a movie is better than it’s book, it is usually unimaginable amazing because you would have never thought of doing something that that particular director or actor decided to do. I love books. They take me away into a different world and it is hard to get me out of them. This past week, the book fair came to my school. I found many books I would consider reading, but there were only four that really stood out to me.
The first book I saw was Al Capone Shines My Shoes by Gennifer Choldenko. This book is the sequel to Al Capone Does My Shirts. I read the book Al Capone Does My Shirts when I as in fourth grade and I absolutely loved it. It was about a kid and his family who move to Alcatraz because the father is a guard at the prison. He doesn’t get much attention from his family because him sister has a disability. He meets many people along the way such as the wardens daughter and ends up starting a business with the warden’s daughter where they take kids shirts from school to be washed by Al Capone himself. The book Al Capone Shines My Shoes looked interesting to me personally because I have already read the first book and enjoyed it a lot. The author dragged me in and I couldn’t stop reading it.
Another book that caught my eye at the book fair was Fever 1793 by Laurie Halse Anderson. I remember in sixth grade I wanted to read this book, but my teacher told me not to, so I didn’t. Whenever I saw that book, I always promised myself I would read it one day. This books looks interesting to me because the cover is so simple with shades of an olive green and gray. The you see the yellow eye. That yellow eye is so interesting and intriguing. That eye stares and follows you begging you to read it.
The book that made my head turn was When Hitler Stole Pink Rabbit by Judith Kerv. When I walked by this book I actually passed it, then walked back to it. The cover is all gray and then a girl in a bright pinkish purple over coat. The colors were so contrasting and different. It made me pick it up. The colors were so dull then there was this little fuschia over coat on a young girl with a suit case next to it. I love historical fiction because get to learn more about different time periods in the world. When ever I read historical fiction I find that again the book drags me in because in reality, it could have happened in that time.
The book I want to read the most more than anything is the novel Th1rteen R3asons Why by Jay Asher. The first time I saw this book was at Barnes & Noble in Saugus. This novel looks so intense. It is about a girl who commits suicide and leaves thirteen tapes on a boy’s front door. These tapes contain the thirteen reasons why she ended her own life, and this boy is one of the reasons. I wanted to buy this book in the book store, but unfortunately, I saw it on my way out of the store and already used all my gift cards. The cover really pulled me in because there is just a girl on the swings and she is somewhat lit up, and the background is designed in dark colors. The books looks really creep and I enjoy creepy and somewhat depressing books.
